Blake Shelton Finds Peace and Strength in New Single “Saviors Shadow”

Blake Shelton is typical country, singing about redneck ways, drinking, and women. And we love him for it. But his newest Single, “Saviors Shadow” from his much-anticipated album, “If I’m Honest”, releasing May 20th, will send a spiritual chill down your spine.

A huge juxtaposition from lead-off single “Came Here to Forget,” Shelton’s tone & crisp vocals give this song an almost Holy Spirit – beautifully sung & written by Shelton, along with co-writers Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall, the hymn-like song was said to have come from a dream the singer had. Shelton sings of Jesus watching over him “I feel the rain and hear the thunder as he cries for me,” singing every line with conviction.  The softness of an acoustic guitar, steel guitar, and violin make this song as spiritual as it’s title.

How often do we go through life wondering if Jesus is with us through times of trouble?  Blake’s tender performance, along with the subtle background singers, creates a believable image of a person believing his Savior is there to protect him:

Though the devil tried to break me,
my sweet Jesus won’t forsake me
When I’m in my Saviors shadow
I’m where I’m suppose to be

This may be a little different from Blake’s wheelhouse, but this Gospel is a difference that, in this day and age, doesn’t hurt to make. Take a listen and let us know what you think in the comments below.
