Ocean City, MD native and American Idol alum Jimmy Charles is back with his new album Hard Way To Go out this Friday, December 7th. The seven track EP features a little bit for everyone with rock, country and several deep cuts, giving fans a glance at the authenticity of Charles’ talent (he also co-wrote six of the seven songs). The title track “Hard Way To Go” is one of those vein-opening songs and you can listen to its exclusive premiere today!
Written by Kris Bergsnes and Melissa Peirce, “Hard Way To Go” oozes so much truth, it physically hurts as Charles’ raspy, poignant vocals add even more weight to the piercing lyrics describing the battle of addiction. But while dark, there is still light as a sense of optimism comes through the song.
“Wow, I feel like I enter a different world when I sing this song,” said Charles of the emotional title track. “The pure rawness of it, the truth and depth. I hope to have everyone hanging on every word and feeling the raw emotion. Addiction is a difficult thing to overcome and claims many lives. Although it recognizes that, I believe the song to be uplifting in the sense of letting people know that it’s ok to struggle, it’s ok that you take a step forward but then fall back. The important thing is that you are trying and nobody is claiming it to be easy. I believe the song has a strong message of yes you can without ever actually saying it! I know many people will connect on a deep level with this song and I wish nothing more than for it to help them through whatever they are going through.”
