Kane Brown Mixes Things Up With ‘Experiment’

Kane Brown, the tattooed country hunk from Georgia, has been creating quite the buzz in country music; some positive, some not. Since gaining popularity by way of his covers posted via his Facebook page, Brown’s been bursting onto country radio and into the hearts of his established fans all the while creating new ones.  Young country fans enjoy the mix of the country, pop, and rap genres that Brown has brought, while others question if he is country at all?

Here’s what we aren’t questioning; with his breakout self-titled album becoming certified Platinum and spending twelve weeks at number one (no artist has amassed that many weeks in that position – oh and he became the first-ever artist to top all 5 Billboard Country Charts:#1 Top Country Album; #1 debuting Country Digital Song, “Heaven”; and #1 Country Airplay, Hot Country Song and Country Streaming Song), is a three time Billboard Award Nominee, has received nominations for ACA, Teen Choice, and CMT Awards, and has earned a certificate from RIAA certifying “What Ifs” with pal Lauren Alaina 4x Platinum. In other words, Brown is here to stay.  His experimentation with other genres seems to have had a positive effect on the masses, so it should be no surprise that his latest album Experiment debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 and is already producing hits.

Experiment, produced by Dann Huff, features twelve tracks  – eleven of which are co-written by Brown with Josh Hoge, Shy Carter, Corey Crowder, Sam Ellis, and Chase McGill.  The first Single, “Lose It” (following theHeaven”, multi week #1 Platinum hit) just became the singers third chart topping single, proving that crossing genres is a wise move.

The new album, released on November 9th, is a mix of 90’s and R&B, rock and is spot-on country with some tunes, and dabbles into some romance and social issues. His lower baritone vocals add the right sexiness in the romantic tunes, adds the roughness for the rock and pop tunes, and along with his Georgia drawl, is picture perfect country.  Take a look at some stand out tunes.

“Good As You” musically flows like a Motown hit in production and is a song built out of the love and respect one has for their partner.  She’s perfect in every way and he strives to mimic her:

See the way you’re taking care of your momma
The way you’re taking care of me
The way you light up any room girl
You’re what this world should be

“It Ain’t You It’s Me” is a country tune of a man deciphering the puzzle of how his relationship failed. Blaming himself he gives reasons why.

“Short Skirt a Weather” is pure boot stomping country.  Besides the sexy lyrics about how hot his girl is, Browns sexy southern drawl is enough to make a woman wear as little as possible!  Sweet fiddle, piano, and guitar interludes just add to the ambiance of a backwoods barn party:

Oh my baby’s made for short skirt weather
Yeah, she make me wish summer
Would just go on forever
From them yellow polka dots
Blue jeans and leather
Oh, my baby’s made for short skirt weather

The album’s latest single “Homesick” is said to have come from the feeling of loneliness, built from not being home in quite some time early in his career.  Lyrics paint the perfect adaptation of just how the singer felt about leaving loved ones behind. Sweet fiddles play in the background along with some electric guitar, making this a great slow dancing country tune.

“Work” is tenderly sung on marriage, spreading pure positivity with such maturity. Being newly married, the tune seems to be produced with Brown and his new bride in mind, with lyrics like:

They say ‘Don’t got to bed angry’
They say ‘Always kiss goodnight’
Maybe there’s something to it
Gotta make it work
Not saying it’s easy
Sometimes we get hurt
I promise I ain’t leaving

“American Bad Dream” is a deep rock anthem, boosted by Brown’s equally deep vocals and thrives on its menacing story of injustices:

I remember going 10 over the limit
Would just get you a ticket
Just an inconvenience gettin’ stopped
Bad Cops played The Jury
Made the good ones worry……
So wake me up
From this American bad dream
Is It this messed up?
Or is it really reality?
I’m becoming numb
To all this trudged

“Live Forever” is a wedding song in the making.  Perfect songwriting is behind this masterpiece as well as subtle background vocals and a killer guitar solo:

If life’s, just walk-in’ up to
Another day of lookin at you
If all we get is just to be together
It makes me wanna, live forever
You make me wanna, live forever

Country or not, this album dabbles and experiments into different genres, but it takes a voice like Brown’s to pull it off and be successful.  And successful he is.

Experiment is available here and you can hear these songs and others when Brown heads out on his first headline tour, Kane Brown: Live Forever Tour which will kick off January 10, 2019 in Duluth, GA.
