The authenticity of bluegrass is something you feel in your bones. From haunting vocals, to skilled banjo picking and eerie fiddle, every aspect of the genre touches upon one’s psyche as the nostalgia of an era – even in a song written last month – comes back to life.  Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs are one of those bluegrass bands that easily creates that connection to the newest ear, such as with there newest single “Paradise” premiering exclusively today with The Country Note.

As the guitar strums and the fiddle screams, the sense of mystery sets the stage, welcoming in the band’s incredible harmonies. But perhaps what adds the feeling of oncoming doom is the story behind the song:

“The song was written during a 6 day backpacking trip on a mountain top, deep in the Beartooth Wilderness near Paradise Valley Montana,” says Brian Kassay (vocals, fiddle). “After crossing rivers, climbing over 3000 vertical feet and setting up camp at a hidden mountain lake, my girl and I found ourselves stranded in a violent lightning and hail storm which almost shredded our tent.  After the storm passed and twilight settled over the valley, we emerged to witness the most breathtaking sight I’ve ever laid eyes on. Just another day in paradise.”

Get ready for some incredible toe tappin’, banjo pickin’ and soulful harmonies. Check out “Paradise” here:

Performing bluegrass Influenced by Americana, the Montana quintet of Laney Lou and Bird Dogs includes Lena (Laney) Schiffer on guitar and vocals, Josh Moore on guitar and vocals, Brian Kassay on fiddle, harmonica, mandolin, and vocals, Matt Demarais on banjo and vocals, and Ethan Demarais on bass.

“Paradise” will be available this Friday, July 16th, two weeks prior to the release of the band’s forth studio album Through the Smoke (7/30).
