1. Merle felt that health was everything. He felt strongly about being sure to take care of yourself – you only have one body. It can be hard to have a good day if you are under the weather or in pain.

2. One of the things Merle felt strongest about was honesty in everything he did.

3. He had many amazing women in his life and was sure to show them all respect and most importantly to be a good listener.

4. In everything he did, Merle made sure it was the best quality possible. If it wasn’t going to be top quality, what was even the point of doing it? Whether it was a song or relationships – always bring quality into your life.

5. Merle was always very careful about the company he kept and what they were capable of – what someone will do against another person for you – they’ll do to you too.

6. Lastly, he was a huge believer in making sure that every song he created was true to who he was. He’d warn to be careful with what songs you write because you may have to sing it everyday for the next half a century.
