Grammy Award Winning Zac Brown Band are getting ready to release their fifth studio album, Welcome Home, on May 12th, with a lot of emotion. The first release from their newly founded Southern Ground Records, Zac Brown Band is taking Welcome Home back to their roots and kicking it off with “My Old Man,” a touching testament of a father/son love.

Growing up you may have looked up to your father; he was the hero that saved the day and the man who protected you at night. He taught you life’s lessons and worked hard; now with a child of your own, you just hope you can pass those lessons on.  Essentially, this is a time-honored father and son song that covers the span of a lifetime:

He knew how to lift me up
And when to let me fail
Looking back, he always had a plan
My old man

“My Old Man” keeps it uncomplicated with a traditional acoustic guitar strumming in the background, Brown’s fluid and stable vocals giving warmth and vulnerability to such a personal song.  The harmonies from the band are impeccable and timeless, generating a classic feel that is provided by the purity of the vocals and effortless tune. Opinion: this is the most genuine piece of music ZBB has released in some time, and it is completely captivating.
