Sister Duo SPINN Feel the Spirit of Woodstock In New Single “Time, Love and Freedom”

The term “country music” is by definition a genre of music, however the actuality of the music goes much deeper than that. It’s practically a living being. You feel it in your soul, and sometimes that soul doesn’t necessarily come from someone born in the “country.”  Just ask Stephanie and Cheryl Lynn Spinner – other wise known as SPINN. The sisters hail from New Jersey but sound as country as if they were born and raised a few states south of the Garden State. After winning their region of the 2016 NASH FM NASH Next competition, and earning a spot on the Top 10 Finalist tour, the duo gained some highly notable fans such as Kix Brooks, Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta, Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus, and Danielle Bradbery who are all members of the SPINN fan club. Now, a year or so post competition, the sisters have released their newest single “Time, Love and Freedom.”

Inspired by a road trip up to the grounds of Woodstock in Bethel, NY, SPINN wrote “Time, Love and Freedom” about the the message that Woodstock etched into the music of that era: peace, love and music.  It was that harmony they felt while upstate that they wanted to set forth in the lyrics of their song (the melody of the first two lines is even a bit reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s 1970 hit “Big Yellow Taxi.”):

17-North coming up on Woodstock
A route so many took so long ago
I gotta feel the dirt beneath my feet
Gotta breathe the air if I’m ever gonna know
Hey dude tell me a story, thumbing across the country trying to change the world

Stephanie and Cheryl Lynn’s vocals are warm and rich, blending beautifully together into wonderful harmonies. The sisters have their own unique sound – country with the strength of an 80’s female rock band (think Pat Benatar / Heart) – complete with Cheryl Lynn playing the autoharp.

Look for the duo’s third EP release Freedom out later this year.
