Single Review: Cam is Hauntingly Beautiful in “Burning House”

It’s difficult to stand out as an artist while remaining authentic. There’s a thin line between being different and just being weird. Cam does a wonderful job at standing out and being genuine at the same time. With her bright blonde hair and even brighter personality, she always wears something yellow. Trying to find a picture of her without any yellow, you won’t!

I had the pleasure of seeing Cam perform in June at the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival. I hadn’t heard any of her music prior so I didn’t really have any expectations, but I think she is a breath of fresh air.

Her current single is titled “Burning House”. With the delicate pluck of the guitar, Cam’s voice fills in the empty spaces, creating a very haunting atmosphere. The lyrics speak directly of a dream she had about an ex-boyfriend in a burning house. Sometimes relationships last longer than they should, even if we don’t want them to end.

I’ve been sleepwalking
Been wandering all night
Trying to take what’s lost and broken, make it right
I’ve been sleepwalking
Too close to the fire
But it’s the only place that I can hold you tight
In this burning house

The musical arrangement of the song, like Cam, is not typical. The bridge is catchy, whereas the chorus is almost whispered. None of the songs on the EP Welcome to Cam Country are typical, proving Cam as original artist and breaks free of the cookie cutter.

Plus, this yellow-loving girl is from the Sunshine State, and you know I love that!
