After releasing their Greatest Hits album earlier this year, Republic Nashville recording group Eli Young Band is back with new music. It has been two years since the group released their album Fingerprints, so many fans are hopeful that their new single “Break It In” is from an upcoming album.

“Break It In” is a unique story that encompasses life’s moments that just get better as time goes on. Many things start out as brand new, from a car, to a baseball glove, a guitar and our heart. We think they can’t get any better when they are new and fresh, but over time they do as life’s experiences break them in. The new jeans and boots get dusty and faded when we break them in and now there is so much more to them. The memories of how they got dirty and worn are part of their story and make them more significant. Heartbreak is not omitted from this journey; you realize life goes on and your heart gets stronger as you break it in.  “Break It In” is a story of perseverance and realizing that depth is created as they break in.

That pickup truck that my dad picked up had a clutch
Man it took me all summer just to learn how to get the hang
But she loved that thing on all those old back roads

The simplicity of the guitar intro sets the emotion for “Break It In”. The slow tempo is a perfect suit for this sentimental song as it allows you to connect to the sentiment of the single. Mike Eli has a way of delivering lyrics in an exceptional manner that makes their music relatable. His vocals are strong, yet sensitive.

Eli Young Band has proven through the years that they are accomplished and do a phenomenal job with an assortment of songs. “Break It In” is special because it’s a guy’s version of heartbreak and growth. It’s an uncommon point of view, but yet doesn’t exclude others from finding the common ground in the message.
