Doug McCormick Knows How to Be ‘Tough’

Country music is defined as “popular music, originating from the rural southern US . . . characteristically on fiddle, guitar, steel guitar, drums and keyboard.” While all that is true of what the music may sound like, it doesn’t encompass the passion of the lyrics. “Tough” by Doug McCormick brings that passion to life.

“Tough” was written with a very simple theme engulfed with the devotion that a man has for what he holds true. McCormick grew up the son of a blue-collar textile worker in Patrick, South Carolina and spent his childhood loving the land and the outdoors. It gave him an appreciation for what’s important in life: your family and friends and taking care of them. “Tough” puts into perspective what that means to him:

I’m tough
When times get hard I got guts
If you want to see what I’m made of
Let ‘em back you in a corner
I’ll be meaner than a hornet
Yeah I’ll come out swingin for us

“I want to make music that people are going to be singing10 years from now,” McCormick states on his website. “I don’t want to record songs that are gonna go up the charts and then nobody’s gonna know it in a few months. I love digging in and finding a deep lyric that’s gonna hit you in the chest.”

McCormick has built a loyal fan base through relentless touring and producing music that resonates with them. He credits the success he’s had so far to his upbringing and the musical influences of his mom’s love of country music. Listening to Garth Brooks, Keith Whitley, Randy Travis and The Judds sparked his passion and through his music he honors the legacy of country music and contributes his own part to the future growth of the genre.
