Chris Young Releases Duet with Cassadee Pope, “Think Of You;” Seeks Back-To-Back #1’s

RCA Nashville recording artist Chris Young’s newest album, I’m Comin’ Over, has already seen a lot of success in the two months since its release – it debuted at #1 on the Top Country Charts (a first for Young), the kick-off single, title track “I’m Comin’ Over,” became his seventh #1 and was certified Gold. Now Young is ready to take over country radio again with “Think Of You,” a duet featuring the talented Cassadee Pope.

The up-tempo yet melancholy song, written by Young, Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, tackles a fairly
timeless topic: A couple who was lucky enough to find a “two becomes one” relationship and is now
trying to rediscover their individual selves post breakup. Separately they are doing the same things they did together and it becomes obvious that there is now an empty void:

I walk in on Friday Nights
Same old bar, same burned out lights
Same people and all the same faces
So why in the hell does it feel like a different place?

And calling further attention to how inseparable they were, even their friends are having a hard time accepting the split and don’t know how to function without the two being together:

We used to be the life of the party
We used to be the ones that they wished they were
But now it’s like they don’t know how to act
Maybe they’re like me and want us back
It’s like there’s always an empty space
Those memories that nobody can erase
Of how bright we burned
Well now it hurts, but it’s true
When they think of me, they think of you

Young co-produced the album with Crowder, which gave him more freedom to direct the album in the direction that he wanted; his decision to include “Think Of You” as his first male-female duet on an album was pretty huge, as his rich baritone has rarely blended with another’s vocals (he did record “Love Don’t Let Me Down” with Patty Loveless for the Country Strong soundtrack released in 2010). He had to make sure he chose the right female vocals to accompany him, and he certainly made the right choice with Pope (“I Am Invincible” anyone?). Young accounts for how the pairing came to be: “I was playing an acoustic show with Cassadee, and she started her first song, and the minute she opened her mouth, it clicked. We were right in the beginning stages of ‘who do we get to do this?’ and I said, ‘I’m asking her right when I get off this stage.’ She’s awesome, and I’m so glad she said ‘yes’ because she was my first choice, and I think people are going to be really into this song.”

While their voices blend and support each others vocals, they do so without overpowering, a beautiful feat for two powerhouse vocalists. Their chemistry throughout the song is not only prominent, but believable, adding an emotion to the song that brings the lyrics to life.

It’s safe to say that “Think Of You” will become a staple on many breakup playlists for years to come. Impacting country radio on January 25, the single is available on Young’s new album I’m Comin’ Over.
