Chris Young Needs A Superhero In ‘Rescue Me’

Chris Young is no stranger to writing and singing love songs – in fact it’s one of the things fans love most about him.  Among his 11 number one singles, six were love songs, so to say the man knows how to croon would be an understatement.

Despite not having a new album since 2017, Young has released a slew of tracks, the most recent being the fast climbing duet with Kane Brown titled “Famous Friends.” Earlier this month the country singer announced – to his fans first – that he’s set to release his long awaited album Famous Friends on August 6, 2021.  With a pre-order of the album comes his latest single “Rescue Me.”

The new single, co-written by Young, Christian Stainecker, Josie Hoge, Mark Holder, and Matt McGinn, is a love song cleverly written from a unexpected angle. With Young’s rich baritone vocals, he approaches the love song, not from desperation or any grand design, but from his love of comic books.  It’s a twist that is truly bittersweet.

If you’re a CY fan, it’s known that the singer is a self-proclaimed nerd.  This tune seamlessly twists a marriage proposal with the imagery of a superhero rescuing a damsel in distress, except it’s the damsel who is doing the rescuing.  Young seizes the moment of proposal and serenades his intended betrothed with images of scaling tall buildings, stopping a speeding train, all to rescue her, becoming the hero.  Instead he laments that it’s she who’ll do the rescuing if she accepts:

But tell me, who is gonna rescue me
‘Cause it sure feels like kryptonite
How you got me on one knee
With my hand out beggin’ for mercy
What’s a happy ending if you can’t get the girl
What’s it matter if I save the world
If you don’t promise me
Before you take this ring
And rescue me

The lyrics are phenomenal and the production isn’t overwhelming, making this the perfect love song that fly’s high on imagery and creativity.  If you can’t wait until August for new Chris Young music, pre-order Famous Friends and get “Rescue Me” now.
