Following his 2013 debut album Rubberband, not only did singer-songwriter Charlie Worsham‘s popularity grow but so did the respect he earned as an artist in Nashville. That respect lead to collaborative work with greats Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, and many more and his highly acclaimed sophomore album Beginning of Things (2017). He’s arguably one of today’s most talented guitar players, mixed with soothing vocals and southern boy charm, as showcased in his latest single “Half Drunk” from his new EP Sugarcane released today.
Sugarcane is a six track album reflecting on Worsham’s perseverance and struggles in life. This creative narrative of his life is detailed in each song, from life’s tough lessons to falling in love. One tough lesson is enveloped in “Fist Through This Town.” With the steady strumming of a guitar, Worsham’s vocals accentuates a somber tune of hardships in a small town. Wanting to strike out at the economic instability, creative writing equates a solid punch in the face of the town for making life so tough.
Lessons can also come in a message of what’s more important in life. Take the tune “For The Love,” an uptempo number with a bluesy flair mixing drum beats and strings with a message of finding the importance of love. Not a love of money, but the love of the family behind you. “Hang On To That” is another track that has a recipe filled with holding on to mementos and the memories they create.
Sugarcane is full of positive messages, one being “Believe In Love.” The track has a powerful message of faith and belief in everything that’s holy, thus creating the inspiration for belief or faith in love. Speaking of love, the title track “Sugarcane” is a slow, bluesy tune, with a touch of sweet love for a romantic night. Creative lyrics allow the listener to envision a night of love.
Worsham’s warm vocals on these six songs paired with background vocals and accompanied with perfect instrumentals makes this a great download.
