Brett Eldredge’s Thoughts Are Simple With “Want That Back”

Brett Eldredge has once again wowed his fans with another thought provoking tune; one that not only shows sincerity and raw emotion, but also showcases just what makes him and his songs fan favorites.

Previously released “Holy Water and newest release “Want That Back both pull from within.  While the first is based on one redeeming themselves, a process most everyone has battled, “Want That Back” tangles with the battle often seen in today’s world; the sadness, the fighting, and the overall feeling of yearning for a time when life was good and peaceful.

The tune and its video, released January 14 co-written with Scooter Caruso, was developed from a dream. Eldredge has stated “I woke up at 3:33 one night and was feeling the weight of everything going on in the world, from the pandemic to the hate and violence – made me crave the pure and simple parts of life that I miss.”.  His vocals and ever impressive range and the song’s message of wanting simpler times has never been clearer.

What begins with a simple piano intro leads to Eldredge singing of the mundane of present life. You can have the small talk/ you can have the hate/you can have the check-your-phone/every time you get a little break/You can have the lonely/You can have the bank/You can have the tv full of stations/That tell you how to think” takes you to a chorus of Elredge and a background vocalist detailing what it is he longs for “But the smell of old wood bleacher/and the word of hometown preachers/ being rich was her and a cheap six-pack/Yeah, the shine of a new summer/Barefoot baseball with my brother/ First – time freedom with the windows cracked/ I want that back”, proves why he is the prolific songwriter he is today.

With societal changes, trials, and tribulations, one could take these words and go find the simpler time in their life, and hearing these words from the charismatic Eldredge, only makes it better.  You can download this tune as well as “Holy Water” on all platforms.
