Brett Eldredge Continues His Use of Metaphors In New Single “Wanna Be That Song”

In the catchy “Drunk On Your Love,” country crooner Brett Eldredge compared his feeling of love to the effects of being intoxicated – fumbling, feeling high, catching a buzz – and now in his new single “Wanna Be That Song,” he takes on yet another simile as he wants to be everything that comes with one’s favorite song.

The single, written by Eldredge, Ross Copperman and Scooter Carusoe, can obviously be viewed in a romantic sense, but it can also be a simple ode to the fans of his music (or music in general) as songs can be many things, and do many things, to a person:

I wanna be that song that gets you high
Makes you dance, makes you fall
That melody rewinds years
Once disappear, makes time stall
Wanna be those words that fill you up
Pull your windows down and keeps you young
Makes you believe you’re right where you belong
I wanna be that song

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Country, Eldredge further explained: “Wanna Be That Song” has everything I want to say about love and about what I’m trying to be . . . I wanna be that part of your life, that song that means so much to you, the one that takes you back to that special place. . . the song that makes you laugh, the song that makes you cry when you need to cry, that makes you dance when you need to dance.”

Perhaps the best lyrics that can summarize what he is explaining are in the bridge:

When you’re searching the horizon
When you’re standing in the moment
When your eyes look back
Every life has a soundtrack

Like everything else in his catalog, Eldredge’s rich vocals soar throughout the song. Softly speaking the first verse, it builds to the chorus where his full voice melodically carries the lyrics.

“Wanna Be That Song,” Eldredge’s third single from his sophomore album Illinois, was released to country radio on May 23. The single and album are available on all outlets.
