Neal McCoy probably should add “comedian” to his resume, along with hit making country singer. Not only does he give high energy and at times jaw dropping performances (remember last year when he climbed the stage frame during CMA Fest? Check out the featured picture from our friend Arthur Born of the Born Country Podcast), but his natural charisma and jokes will you have rolling out of your seat! Light-hearted songs like “Wink” and “The Shake” give us all the confidence to dance crazy, without worrying about who’s watching! But sometimes, serious issues need to be addressed and what better way to do that then through music?

Part Filipina, part Irish, but all American, McCoy has made no secret how deep his love and pride for the USA runs, as he shouldn’t. In fact, he took to his social media everyday for close to two years to say the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition, he’s entertained troops overseas in countries like Pakistan and Iraq and has always been a go-to supporter of the military, alongside artists like Toby Keith and Darryl Worley. And his 2017 song, “Take a Knee … My Ass” is sure to stir up some trouble, which may be exactly what’s needed. Why? Well, as you can see from the not so discreet title, the song touches on a highly controversial subject as of late, especially among those in the sports and entertainment industries. McCoy surprised The Country Note and other media outlets earlier this year in Vegas by performing “Take a Knee”, which he released just a few months before. McCoy was actually at the Hard Rock for a Cold River Records showcase to introduce and support another good buddy of ours, Drew Baldridge (which McCoy later joined on stage for Wink!) And while McCoy himself said that radio probably wouldn’t play this song (ironically enough, the room was full of radio representatives from all over the country), we certainly don’t mind sharing this video that we took, especially during Memorial Day Weekend.

Thank you to all the men and women who sacrifice their own freedom and even their lives for ours. And thank you Neal McCoy for always being one we can depend on to take a stand for the flag.

Arm and arm and side by side American heroes fought and died
Is showing some respect too much to ask?
I speak for those whose freedom was not free
And I say ‘Take a knee, my ass’
