Introducing: Jordan Gray

At just 20-years-old, and with few public shows under his belt, Jordan Gray is already creating a buzz that’s spreading throughout his home state of South Carolina and traveling all the way to Nashville, Tennessee.

Upon hearing Jordan for the first time there will be no question what the buzz is all about. Jordan isn’t one of those artist that slowly grows on you over time – he captures your attention immediately and lets you know just how much talent he possesses, which is exactly what happened when Jordan met M.E.G.’s Tommy Jones for the first time. Jordan instantly proved to Jones that he was something special:“I frequently get asked to listen to different people, and most of the time, it’s nothing special” Jones said. “So when a friend called and asked me to check this kid Jordan Gray out, I didn’t think it was going to be any different, but I agreed, and as soon as I heard that first note, I asked, ‘Who is this kid…?’ and quickly scheduled to meet with him the next morning.”

A native of Lamar, S.C., Jordan comes from a musical family. In fact, it was music that first brought his parents together. “My dad was the drummer in a band and my mom was called to fill in for the female singer one night,” Jordan explains. “That’s how they met. My parents were always into music, and we grew up around it from the time we were babies. I think I was still potty-training when I got my first guitar.”

With the love of music instilled in him young Jordan didn’t waste any time before honing his own musical talent. Throughout middle school and high school he spent time performing in his local church, playing at worship services, and entertaining at youth camps across the state. After high school, Jordan moved to Charleston where he discovered his true love of country music: “I met a couple of other artists and just really loved their stuff,” Jordan said. “I’d always really just played in church, but in Charleston, I started playing some small bars, doing some shows here and there and kind of getting my feet wet in that scene. I realized how much I enjoyed playing for people who didn’t know me or know anything about me. It was great to see them enjoying my music.”

Jordan eventually left Charleston to take a music director position with a church in Columbia, South Carolina. Although he loved his work in the church Jordan began missing playing country music. “I started writing a lot and decided to record an EP,” he said. “I played a show in Raleigh, N.C., and there was a guy there who was a volunteer firefighter down in Sumter. We got to talking and he introduced me to Tommy (Jones). I knew as soon as I met Tommy that he was who I was supposed to be working with.”

In addition to his standout voice, dedication, and genuine love of music, Jordan’s career approach confirms his heart is in the right place and that this young man has what it takes to quickly become a fan favorite. “My passion is to take music to cities and towns, sharing hope, love, and encouragement. Music is my passion, but showing people love and care is my business.” Gray explains.

Now signed to Millstar, Jordan’s first EP “West of the Pines” – titled after the area Gray grew up– made its debut Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, and is already making waves. The EP climbed all the way to #16 on iTunes its first day, and the leading single “Stay the Night” has already been streamed over 31,000 times on Spotify.Although big sales and climbing the charts is always exciting for artist that’s not what Jordan bases his goals on.
