To Honor The Country Legend’s 87th Birthday
Nashville, Tenn. — Time Life will honor Conway Twitty for what would have been his 87th birthday by releasing two of his live albums on all major digital and streaming platforms on September 4. “A Moment In Time – An Evening With Conway Twitty and Orchestra,” which has never been released before, and “Conway Twitty in Concert – The Man, The Music, The Legend,” previously available for only a short time via his website, are a fitting tribute for the country music legend who never missed a show in his 36 years of touring.“The albums are going to be something special for fans,” says Conway’s daughter, Joni Twitty Ryles. Many of our successful music collections have featured Conway and we are deeply honored to share these treasures with his many fans,” adds Mike Jason, Senior Vice President, Live Entertainment. “Conway Twitty was a true icon, and these recordings are further proof of his talent and his connection with his audiences.”
“A Moment In Time – An Evening With Conway Twitty and Orchestra” was recorded in the mid-70’s and has never before been released. “The fact that it’s recorded with an orchestra is really cool because he normally didn’t travel with one,” says Joni, who performed her namesake song “Don’t Cry, Joni” with her father during the concert. “I loved it…it was wonderful. Performing with an orchestra takes the songs to a whole new level with a different feel.”
Recorded in Branson, MO less than a year before he died, “Conway Twitty in Concert – The Man, The Music, The Legend” is highlighted by rare, onstage banter from Twitty. Known for not giving many interviews, the album gives fans a unique glimpse into the superstar’s creative process through his own words. “A huge arena concert is quite different than one in a setting like a Branson show,” explains Joni. “It gives you a chance to have a more intimate experience with the audience. The stories he tells leading up to the songs give a lot of insight into how he writes a song, how he selects a song to record, and especially into his knowledge of country music.”
Conway Twitty was a singer, songwriter, producer, entertainer and recording artist who stands among the greatest in the history of popular music. He amassed 55 Number One singles, sold over 50 million albums and performed thousands of concerts to tens of millions of fans. He received seven ACM Awards, four CMA Awards, two GRAMMY Awards (including a Hall of Fame award) and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. He would have turned 87 on September 1.
