The Sisterhood Band, Alyssa Bonagura and Ruby Stewart, need look no closer than home to find the artists who inspired them. Bonagura’s parents, Kathie Baillie and Michael Bonagura, fronted RCA country band Baillie and the Boys in the late 1980s and early ‘90s and Stewart is the offspring of rock icon Rod Stewart.

Raised on the road with an obsessive passion for music and the mavericks who create it, Stewart and Bonagura found kindred spirits in each other and their shared devotion to folk legend Joni Mitchell. Abandoning solo careers, they bonded as songwriters and created a distinct, compelling sound as The Sisterhood Band.

A must-have for the beach, car, boat, or backyard, the Summer Setlist is a soaring achievement with a breezy title. The collection introduces a new generation of female duos that tell stories and kick butt. Poetic, crystalline harmonies are tethered by rock-inspired guitar work and adhesive percussion.

Summer Setlist was inspired by the Seven Tyler 2018 summer tour and their live show, which is vocally intricate and stripped down in a way that allows their richly textured harmonies room to soar. On the road with the Aerosmith frontman from June 12 to Aug. 7, The Sisterhood Band will be reaching a huge, new audience with dates across the U.S. as well as Italy, Spain and the U.K.

Produced by Stewart and Bonagura, who studied sound technology at the Paul McCartney Institute for Performing Arts in Liverpool, the seven-song stack is smart, rich in imagery, and lustrous. It was made for summer listening, but the themes run deep. Bonagura and Stewart wrote every cut and collaborated with an outstanding group of writers including John Fields, Cary Barlowe, Rebecca Lovell, and Morgan Evans.

The results showcase an artistic vision that is a satisfying blend of candor and self-reflection sprinkled with moon dust. It draws heavily from their collective experience and feels empowering for a generation poised to change the conversation on women’s issues – young women who are craving open doors and a voice to tell their truth without feeling overly fragile in the process.

No stranger to the stage, Bonagura joined her parents onstage at 3 to sing the Leslie Gore classic “It’s My Party” and by the time she was a teenager, Stewart was a regular on stage with her dad singing his hit “Forever Young.” It was a master class in live performance that informed their stripped down acoustic shows as well as full band performances with periodic guest players such as multi-instrumentalist Hunter Hayes.

Opening for rock royalty is the most recent of many earned accomplishments for the duo. They wrote and recorded the theme song “Tenderize My Heart” for the “Stewarts & Hamiltons” reality series on E!, performed at Fashion Weeks in Milan and Miami, landed a slot on the main stage at CMC music festival in Australia, opened for Gary Clark Jr., made guest appearances at Rod Stewart’s Las Vegas show at Caesar’s Palace, were the opening act on Sir Rod’s summer and winter stadium tours, headlined their first club tour in the U.K., and made their Grand Ole Opry debut on the eve of the historic solar eclipse.
