Distinguished music critics/editors unveil insight on the world of artist publicity

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nashville’s group of aspiring music-industry leaders, SOLID, held Press & Publicity: The Art of the Pitch, an hour-long panel hosted by Nashville publicist and owner of Essential Broadcast Media, LLC Ebie McFarland, Thursday, May 4 at Main Street Gallery in East Nashville.

The distinguished panelists included NPR Music’s critic and correspondent, Ann Powers, who previously served as chief pop music critic at the Los Angeles Times, pop critic for New York Times, senior critic at Blender, senior editor at Village Voice and more; music critic and journalist with recent contributions featured in The New York Times, NPR, Billboard, Vulture and many more; and Joseph Hudak, senior editor of Rolling Stone Country.

McFarland, a SOLID alumni herself who represents artists ranging from up-and-coming acts to icons, led panelists through several topics including what to do vs. what not to do in a pitch, timing for a pitch, what to include in a pitch and what connects them with an up and coming artist.

Press & Publicity: The Art of the Pitch was the first publicity panel SOLID has held in their series of music-industry related panels for members.
