WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – Country music singer Scotty McCreery will take part in the popular Wednesday Pro-Am on July 5 at The Greenbrier Classic. The Pro-Am, on the eve of tournament rounds, traditionally draws large galleries and celebrities from music, sports and film.
“We’re always trying to find stars that are of interest to our fans, and we’re excited about having Scotty McCreery with us,” said Habibi Mamone, Executive Tournament Director, The Greenbrier Classic. “We’re thrilled to have him take part in what is always a special event at The Greenbrier Classic.”
McCreery, a 23-year-old North Carolina native who lives in Nashville, first burst upon the national scene when he won “American Idol” in 2011. That win sparked a career that saw him make history when his Platinum-certified debut album, Clear as Day, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. He was the youngest male artist of any genre and first country artist to achieve that feat. He’s gone on to sell nearly three million albums; land two Top 10 hits (“See You Tonight” and “Feelin’ It”); earn ACM, BMI and CMT Awards; and author a book, Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream. In May 2017, he released his new single “Five More Minutes,” which has already earned more than two million streams on Spotify in less than a month. McCreery lists Elvis Presley, Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Josh Turner among his musical influences. McCreery, who was the pitcher on his high school baseball team, is an avid sports fan. He is a huge follower of all NC State sporting events as well as the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Nashville Predators.
“Golf has become one of my passions over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to getting out on this fantastic course with some of golf’s biggest stars,” said McCreery. “I know it’s going to be a lot of fun, and I’m excited to experience all The Greenbrier has to offer.”
McCreery will join the stars of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” for the Wednesday Pro-Am, and other celebrities will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Greenbrier Classic will take place July 3-9 on the newly restored Old White TPC Course, the oldest course on the PGA TOUR. Grounds badges for all seven days are free.
