Returning for a second season on March 5th is AXS-TV’s original series “Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar Presented by Mercury Insurance,” where the one-time Van Halen front man interviews and jams with some of today’s biggest names in rock including James Hatfield, John Mayer, Melissa Etheridge, Tommy Lee and John Mellencamp. But country fans need to make sure they don’t miss the March 12th episode as Hagar takes his cameras down to Norman, OK to interview good friend and proud American Toby Keith.
Arriving at the beautiful 160-acre mansion, Hagar “sneaks” into Keith’s office, decorated with memorabilia ranging from guitars to a plaque with John Wayne’s gun to a suit from his friend the late-great Merle Haggard and several trophy showcases. Doing the bragging that a humble Keith might not, Hagar shows off the generous gifts given by his military friends as well as what seems to be countless awards Big Dog Daddy has received over his career. Despite the many ACM, CMA, Billboard, etc. awards lining up the shelves, Hagar reveals that it’s the “Songwriters Hall of Fame” award that’s most significant to Keith, and the reasoning behind that becomes quite clear later in the interview.
Keith joins Hagar in his own personal bar, which was built thanks to the success of “I Love This Bar,” before the two move poolside to continue the interview – tackling topics such as Keith’s ability to sing practically any song ever written (Hagar refers to him as Jukebox), to who he listened to growing up, and a topic near and dear to Keith’s heart – his performances for the service men and women of the American Armed Forces.
With the a clear blue Oklahoma sky above, the friends take Keith’s 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass for a ride to the Hollywood Corner, a gas station established in 1925 that Keith purchased and turned into a nostalgic diner. With a back patio and plenty of room for live music (so much room that the turned a flatbed into a stage!), Hagar gets itchin’ to head back to Keith’s home for a drink and some jam time.
The second Season of “Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar Presented by Mercury Insurance” premieres on March 5 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and be sure to tune in for Toby Keith’s interview on March 12 only on AXS-TV.
