Rolling Stone Premiers Powerful Tribute to Johnny Cash By American Soul Stylist Brian Owens

LISTEN TO SOUL OF CASH EXCLUSIVELY ON ROLLINGSTONE.COM NOW!

NASHVILLE, TENN – Just two days away from its Oct. 6 worldwide release, RollingStone.com is giving fans an exclusive first listen to Brian Owens’ epic SOUL OF CASH album HERE!

“Thanks to his passionate delivery and gift for interpretation, singer Brian Owens successfully proves that the songs of Johnny Cash belong every bit in the soul canon as they do in country,” says Rolling Stone Senior Editor Joseph Hudak.

Inspired by his love for the music and message of the legendary Man In Black, SOUL OF CASH focuses on the traits that unite two outstanding artists from seemingly different musical worlds. As The Urban Music Scene notes, “Owens’ ability to encompass the sacred and the sensuous mirror what Cash accomplished in his music.”

“Traditional country music is a cousin of the blues,” Owens points out. “So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Johnny Cash influenced me more than any other artist. His musical pedigree is really not too different from mine. To me, SOUL OF CASH says that a white man born in the South, who’s now passed on, and I, a young African-American guy born in the Midwest and raised on soul music, can find much common ground through music. What we have in common far outweighs the difference that I’m black and he’s white. That’s what I want people to get from this record.”

The album is being released via Ada Cole Records and Purpose Music Group. Digital copies of the album can be preordered now at iTunes, and through all other major digital retailers beginning Oct. 6. Vinyl pressings of the album can be purchased exclusively at MusicRecordShop.com

Owens will debut SOUL OF CASH before a live audience on Friday, Oct. 13, at The Back Corner in Nashville. Visit thebackcorner.com for more information.
