Rex Allen Jr. Remembers The Great Don Williams

Country Music Hall of Fame Member Remembered As A Musical Mentor and Hero

NASHVILLE, TN — The shocking news of the loss of Country Music Hall of Fame Member Don Williams has created an outpour of heartbreak throughout the musical community. For Rex Allen Jr., this is very much a personal loss.

Rex recalled, “I met Don while we were both on JMI Records. All of us at JMI worked for a year to develop what became known as ‘the Don Williams Sound’.” The 78-year-old was an amazing stylist admired my many musicians for his laid-back sound.

Rex Allen Jr. continued to share, “He taught me how to tune a guitar to an open ‘G’ and to write songs from the heart. He was then and throughout his life, ‘The Gentle Giant.’ The music and the heritage he leaves behind means more to me than any other artist of my generation in country music.”
