‘Reno’s Old Time Music’ Celebrates Bluegrass Legend Jimmy Martin This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — “Reno’s Old Time Music” continues to bring viewers the best of Bluegrass and acoustic music all April, beginning with a celebration of Bluegrass legend Jimmy Martin this weekend! View archival performances and discussions about Jimmy’s storied career, feisty temperament and incredible musical legacy.

Also in April, three of the biggest names in Bluegrass will join Ronnie as special guest co-hosts for more episodes of “HATS OFF TO BLUEGRASS.” Del McCoury, Rhonda Vincent and Sierra Hull will introduce the best performances selected from the nearly 25 years of footage collected by “Reno’s Old Time Music.”

Finally, celebrate Easter with a special episode of “FRONT PORCH GOSPEL,” a compilation of the best Bluegrass Gospel to commemorate the season.

Reno’s Old Time Music” airs weekly in prime time on Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. Eastern and Thursday morning at 6:30 A.M. “HALL OF FAME” Spotlight Series: Jimmy Martin
Reno’s Old Time Music” celebrates another Bluegrass Hall of Fame inductee, “The King of Bluegrass” Jimmy Martin. This fiery, outspoken performer served as lead vocalist and guitarist for Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys from 1949-54. He went on to form the Sunny Mountain Boys and recorded with Decca for 18 years. His Bluegrass standards include “Rock Hearts,” “Tennessee,” “Bear Tracks,” “Hold Whatcha Got,” “Widow Maker” and “Run Pete Run” (to name just a few), and his instrumentals set a new standard in the bluegrass world. Martin’s 1972 collaboration on Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s landmark “Will the Circle be Unbroken” album renewed mainstream interest in acoustic music and forever cemented Martin’s musical legacy. Rhonda Vincent (dubbed “The New Queen of Bluegrass” by the Wall Street Journal) and her band, The Rage, are the most award-winning band in Bluegrass music history. In addition to being a 15-time Entertainer of the Year, Rhonda has established herself as one of the most visible, best-selling artists in the genre, whose cross-over appeal stretches well into the mainstream media. Vincent will join Ronnie as guest co-host–together they will discuss amazing video highlights from the show’s nearly 25-year history and Ronnie’s personal archives. With a prodigious 50-year history, legendary artist and original bluegrass all-star, Del McCoury, isn’t stopping anytime soon! Working alongside the late, master Bill Monroe in his early years, McCoury has built a spectacular career and become a “household” name within bluegrass circles. This elder statesman has been honored with numerous awards, including two Grammy wins, over 30 IBMA awards (including numerous Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year titles), membership in the Grand Ole Opry in 2003, a National Heritage Fellowship Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Endowment for the Arts in 2010, and induction into the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 2011. Additionally, the always cordial McCoury has amassed a remarkable legion of incredibly devoted fans known as Del-Heads, who follow him on his festival circuits, snap up his albums, and relish his never-out-of-place hairstyle. Nominated for a GRAMMY for her landmark album Weighted Mind and named Mandolin Player of the Year at the 2016 IBMA Awards (the first woman in history to receive this honor), 25 year-old Sierra Hull is setting the bluegrass and folk world on fire! This supremely talented, young lady will help introduce another round of top-notch performance videos, share stories and give Ronnie a guaranteed run for his money on the mandolin. Don’t miss it!
