Glenrock, NJ’s Matt Roy began playing guitar at the age of 8 and was already performing on stage by age 12. Inspired by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & Jackson Browne – Roy made the move to Nashville in 2014 to attend Belmont University & before graduation inked his first publishing deal, a cut from Kane Brown and has since had additional songwriting success from the likes of Morgan Wallen, Jake Owen, Chris Young, Hailey Whitters, Ashley Cooke/Brett Young & many others.

In 2021, Matt landed his first multi-week #1 with Chris Janson’s “Done”, was named one of MusicRow’s Top 100 Songwriters & won his 1st BMI songwriting award – Roy has established himself as one of Nashville’s top emerging songwriters. Even after independently releasing a couple of singles & an EP in 2022, Matt still finds himself helping tell the stories of other artists with a cut on Morgan Wallen’s multi-platinum album One Thing at a Time, one on Hailey Whitters’ new EP I’m In Love & the title track on Jake Owen’s brand new album Loose Cannon. “The minute I heard it, the first time, I thought this song is amazing & the perfect story” says Owen on his new album title track.

But now it’s time for Matt to tell the story himself as an artist. “Songwriting is really important for me and as a new artist I think it’s just as important for me to tell the story.” Now working with producer Jared Conrad (Cody Johnson/Ian Munsick), Roy gears up with a slew of brand new music in which he is the sole writer. And in response to his new audience & online reaction from his previous releases, Matt starts off with a brand new single titled “Mary & Me” available today, August 25, 2023.  Listen here.
