“The name of the song is ‘Behind,’ but it’s really a song about moving forward,” shares James. “I have to remind myself every day to focus on the positive, life-building people and events that are happening all around me. I have to keep my ‘sunny state of mind.’ After a year where so many of us were confined to our homes and going through so many negative emotions, I hope this song can help motivate people to leave that behind and get after whatever is next. There is so much beauty in pushing past our own understanding, and if we believe our best days are ahead of us then they are.”
“Behind” was written by James, Jared Scott, Sam Martinez and Luke Preston, and produced by Daniel Ross. The new release marks the first since James’ 2020 single “Island of Heaven” and debut EP Pick Me.
Following the release of “Behind,” James will drop a new music video on Wednesday, July 7 that captures the singer letting loose and heading to the beach. With the windows down and the waves crashing, James channels the ‘feel good’ energy that is so important to her as an artist.
