Naperville, Illinois native Joe Hanson has hit the country music scene with an emotional breakup song, mixed with a pop melody that speaks to the roller coaster of breaking up. The highs and the lows of Broken If It Don’t Break” would be perfect for anyone ever experienced the pain of breaking up and the joy of starting fresh.

I should be balled up on the floor
I should be callin’ up my momma
But her leavin’ left me feeling nothing
I should be drowning in my tears
I would’ve thought it hit me harder
Cause I didn’t even see it coming

Oohhh, There must be something wrong with me
Cause my heart don’t feel a thing
It’s broken if it don’t break

The song’s midtempo paired with the lyrics are an expression of grief from losing a relationship and the sense of being blindsided. Hanson’s smooth, melodic tenor voice fills you with emotion and the lack of emotion all at once, just like breaking up.

Even though Hanson is new to Nashville and country music he has already had the opportunity to open for some of Nashville’s best including Brantley Gilbert, Randy Houser, Russell Dickerson and Lindsay Ell. Already hitting the ground running, Hanson is sure to be a household name soon.

“Broken If It Don’t Break” was released on Friday, August 21 is available for download/streaming here.
