Independent Country Artist Douglas Riley Releases Powerful New Single “Colorblind”

Message of Hope Seeks to Spread Understanding,
Compassion, and the Need for Racial Unity

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Independent country artist Douglas Riley has released the powerful new single “Colorblind,” from his forthcoming album ‘A Love Like That’ slated for release later this summer. The song is available at all major digital outlets. Listen to “Colorblind” at this link.

“I wrote ‘Colorblind’ in early 2019,” states Riley. “I was seeing news reports about the issues of race and some crazy senseless things. And I recall thinking to myself ‘I so wish we could come to a day when we love can love each other more.’ And the idea for the song just came to me.”

Riley continues, “I had another single set to release and I’m in the process of shooting a music video for it. But with the recent events surrounding the death of George Floyd I realized that the time for ‘Colorblind’ was now, and my hope is that maybe this song can help someone and help our nation to heal and unite. To me it is sad that people don’t get along sometimes, I hope sooner as opposed to later that we can get past race as a thing that divides us. I hope we can get to the point where we look at the heart of the person, and who they are on the inside as opposed to the color of their skin.”

Riley originally hails from Goshen, Indiana and currently resides in Nashville where he performs regularly with his band in honky tonk venues on Broadway and in towns across Tennessee.

Riley was first inspired musically by his mother, who played piano. He began taking piano lessons in elementary school. His pursuit of music continued in high school where he joined the marching band. “This lasted until I noticed there were more girls in choir than in marching band. The following year I quit the band and joined the choir,” Riley jokingly explains. After high school, Riley attended Ball State University where he helped form his first band. “After a show in September, 2001, I remember getting ready to make the drive back to Goshen,” recalls Riley. “I was driving up to the entrance ramp to Interstate 69 near Fairmount, Indiana where we had performed the night before. The highway runs north and south there. North would have meant returning home to Goshen, and south would mean heading to Nashville. I was at a crossroads in my life – literally. At the last minute, I turned the truck onto the entrance ramp to I-69 South and headed to Nashville. I did not tell my parents. I remember having about $200, a change of clothes, and to top it all off, the fuel gauge in the truck did not work. Eventually, I told my parents about my decision and with the help of some relatives, I was able to find an apartment and not long after that I got a job. I was excited to be in Nashville. I had finally made the move I’d dreamt of making for most of my life.”
