MELBOURNE, Aus. (Oct. 6, 2017) – The first annual Australian Americana Music Honours Night: A Roots Music Celebration took place at the Thornbury Theatre in Melbourne on Monday night, October 2, commemorating the Australian Americana music scene through honoring those who have impacted the widespread genre and showcasing an array of local and international talent from trailblazing mainstays to buzz-worthy newcomers.

Presented by the Americana Music Association℠, Chugg Entertainment and Essence Music Group’s “A Taste of Americana,” highlights from this special evening included the Nashville-based Americana Music Association presenting its first-ever Vanguard Awards to artist Kasey Chambers and Out On the Weekend Festival Promoter Brian “BT” Taranto to recognize their valuable contributions to the genre and community of Americana.

Inspired by the critically acclaimed Americana Honors & Awards taped annually at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and being broadcast on the Country Music Channel (CMC) in Australia early next year, the inaugural Honours Night’s attendees were treated to electrifying performances by Chambers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Valerie June, along with Busby Marou, Shane Howard, Bernard Fanning, Catherine Britt, Kevin Welch and Henry Wagons, while being joined by emerging acts such as Yirrmal, Emily Barker, Ruby Boots and Jordie Lane & The Sleepers. These artists were backed by a stellar house band consisting of Bill ChambersGlen HannahSyd Green and Ben Franz. See below for a complete run of show.

Triple R’s Denise Hylands and the Americana Music Association’s Executive Director Jed Hilly hosted the momentous occasion, which has evidently created a sacred musical space boasting one-of-a-kind performances and awards to honor and celebrate the Australian Americana music scene and community, while also illustrating the genre’s growth on a global scale.
