The twang-infused tune cleverly turns an unimaginable event into a toe-tapping, barn burner of a song about heartbreak and love. Proving that sometimes no matter how healed wounds may appear, the scars remain Skip told us about the scary car accident that lead to the song.

“Years ago I was in a head-on collision. The driver fell asleep and crossed the line with no warning,” Skip shared. “For months after I couldn’t drive without fearing someone would cross the line and hit us again. I became hyper-aware that the painted lines we saw were only illusions of separation. If someone disregarded or disrespected those lines it could again be devastating.”

A nod to classic country, the song’s deeper meaning struck Skip as he reminisced on the accident years after. “Years later, as I thought back on this, I realized how metaphoric this was for love and heartbreak. If you’ve loved and wrecked, you’ll definitely understand the metaphor.”

With a lighthearted twist on his initial inspiration, “Wreck of My Heart” highlights Skip’s smooth vocals and ability to craft a catchy melody. The artist who currently resides in Wyoming, which happens to be the name of his 2020 album, is building up for a big year with the forthcoming release of his album Road To California. The new single joins other previous singles from the record, “Knots” and “Road Dog” which also produced a fan-favorite video featuring submitted photos of mans best friends from around the country. The songs showoff who Skip Ewing the artist really is while his previous repertoire was often structured around writing for others. The GRAMMY nominee wrote songs fro the likes of George Strait, Keith Urban, Willie Nelson and had No. 1 hits with Diamond Rio’s “I Believe,” Kenny Chesney’s “You Had Me from Hello,” and Bryan White’s “Someone Else’s Star.” Additionally, Grammy-Award Winner Lainey Wilson recently recorded a “long lost” song of Skip’s for Apple Music called “I Would If I Could.”
