Alt-country/Americana singer-songwriter Katie Cole likes to keep a packed schedule.   Last year she released her highly anticipated EP Things That Break, Part 1 while touring with the iconic rock band Smashing Pumpkins. This year, the Australian born musician not only shared the stage again with the full Pumpkins crew as they traveled through Europe, but also held the opening slot on lead singer Billy Corgan‘s solo tour which just completed in July.  No rest for the weary tho, as Cole is about to head out again with the Pumpkins on the US leg of their tour, along with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds & AFI.

But while she can rock out on the guitar and keys with the best of them, Cole’s country roots run deep. In the past she’s collaborated with Kris Kristofferson and Glen Campbell and her current single “Graceland” marries country and Gospel in a song inspired by a trip to the home of the man who embodied country, rock and Gospel, Elvis Presley.

The lyrics tell the story of a woman who knows she’s broken her lover’s heart while her incredible vocals drive the passion and power of the song:

If I make it all the way down to Memphis
If I leave you would you find some peace
Oh I can’t change who I am, I’ll do what I can
To find me some grace in Graceland

Cole’s personal track is brought to life through its simple yet emotional music video, premiering today exclusively with The Country Note.

When asked about the idea behind the video, Cole explained:

“When I decided I’d shoot a video for “Graceland”, I approached director Doltyn Snedden (DS Creative) again as we’d collaborated on some live studio/video pieces that I titled the Shoebox Sessions.  He captures women on film really well and there’s always a creative angle to how he approaches each frame or scene. This song is pretty emotional and I’m personally a fan of videos that you feel compelled to watch again, or those that make you feel something strongly when you view them. We had discussed making this video a continuous shot and I loved that idea. Doltyn asked me “how do feel about crying on film?”. I was totally up for the challenge. Zero acting experience right here, but I thought it might make the lyrics really stand out if you just knew I was re-living them. It was raining lightly, I’m crying and we shot this the weekend before I headed out on the European tour for Smashing Pumpkins. No pressure hahah. But it all came together and I’m really happy with the result.”
