Dan + Shay Take Over Pandora’s Today’s Country Station

Starting today, Dan + Shay are taking over Pandora’s popular Today’s Country station — the same day that their new album, Good Things, comes out. The Grammy Award-winning country duo introduce some of the tracks from the new record and tell stories about the writing — some of which happened over Zoom — and recording of each. The guys talk about which song from the new album feels like it’s destined to be a “wedding song” and discuss how and why some of Shay’s original voice-memo, demo vocals for “Let Me Get Over Her” made it onto the finished album. Dan also reveals how looking at his beloved, aging dog inspired the song “One Direction” and how he is related to pop band LANY!

Throughout their Today’s Country Artist Takeover Mode, Dan + Shay spin songs by other artists they are fans of — Ryan Hurd & Maren Morris, Cam, Kenny Chesney, Brothers Osborne, Kelsea Ballerini and others — and discuss why each of those artists and tracks are special to them.

Here are a couple sneak peeks to the discussions you will hear:

Kelsea & LANY “I Quit Drinking”: “Kelsea has been a good friend of ours for a long time. We actually went on tour together, way back in the day we were doing small clubs. We’ve always been a fan of what she does. And she collaborated on this song with one of our favorite artists in the world. The band Lany, I have a special connection with this band because the singer Paul Klein is actually first cousins with my wife, Abby. So anything they put out, we’re always fans and we always geek out because sometimes we get to hear their demos early and hear the music before it’s released. And we’re big fans of both Kelsey and Lany, and this song is just absolutely blowing up.”

Lily Rose “Villain”: Lily has actually become like a friend of ours via social media and Instagram. She’s a new artist. And, uh, we heard her song “Villain.” I think it sort of picked up some steam on TikTok, and then it was spreading everywhere and it was just putting up crazy, crazy numbers. Uh, and I think I followed her and just was a fan of what she was doing. Super talented. She’s working hard. She’s writing songs every day. She’s got a great team around her and come to find out she’s, she’s been a fan of our band for a long time. And I think she posted a video wearing a hoodie from one of our concerts at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. And, that was so cool to see. And, yeah, we love Lily and we wish her the best and we think she’s going to have a huge career and can’t wait to watch where it goes, but we’re always rooting for her and happy for her success. And it’s really cool to see this next generation of country artists, you know, be inspired by things that we’ve put out in the past or previous albums and previous singles that we’ve had on the radio. That’s the most flattering thing in the entire world. So Lily, you’re amazing. We wish you nothing but the best and  let’s work together. Let’s write a song sometime.”
