October 12, 2016 — Multi-Platinum selling country star Clay Walker hosted his 5th Annual “Give MS the Boot” gala on September 30th at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston, TX. The gala, which raised over $155K, serves to help support Clay Walker’s nonprofit, Band Against MS (BAMS), to continue the outreach and education efforts as well as the research grants it provides. The evening, presented by TEVA and SHELL, featured a live performance by Walker, a silent auction, an exclusive “Paintjam” with the speed painting artist Dan Dunn and a presentation of the “Clay Walker MS Band of Hope” Award to recipient and ABC 13 Anchor Melanie Lawson.

“As someone who has lived for 20 years with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis, I know how difficult the MS journey can be. That is why my nonprofit, Band Against MS (BAMS) was created,” said Clay Walker. “We have launched a diligent battle to not only get answers but to help find solutions for a multitude of struggles that MS patients go through on a regular basis and to support research to find a cure.  I am personally grateful to all who supported and participated in this wonderful event.”

The “Give MS The Boot” gala was hosted by Great Day Houston’s very own Deborah Duncan who helped make it an exceptional night for the 225 people in attendance. The “Clay Walker MS Band of Hope” Award is presented by Multiple Sclerosis Association of America and BAMS. It recognizes exceptional individuals, groups, or organizations who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of others affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

The funds raised from the gala will go to benefit BAMS and local programs such as the MS Forum and Open Discussion that was held the following day at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Houston.  The MS Forum is a unique opportunity for individuals with MS and their loved ones to speak to leading MS researchers about MS research and patient care. Clay Walker joined the group as the MS patient panelist. Funds will also benefit the Clay Walker Band Against MS Ride to be held at the Home of the Shell Houston Open in Humble, TX on Saturday, March 25, 2017 and MS research at the University of Texas.
