Check Twice, Tag Once: A Lesson In Social Media Etiquette Thanks to Scooter Brown Band’s Unfortunate Headache From Swifties’ Rage

In the age of social media, it’s become very easy to let celebrities and other well-known figures know when we are praising them or roasting them in real time. But there’s a set back as sometimes people who have similar names will have similar handles, so when conducting a search on a social media platform, several options may populate that fit that description.

For example:  Scooter Brown vs Scooter Braun.

Now Scooter isn’t the most common first name out there, so the possibility that both names will pop up during a search is high, and even more so since both last names start with a “B.” The fact that they also end with an “N” will play tricks on our eyes and we could easily select the wrong one.

In general this may not be a big deal – someone gets a few notifications that they were incorrectly tagged in a post, however, after this past weekend’s breaking news regarding Big Machine Label Group’s deal with Scooter Braun, Taylor Swift’s fans have come at Braun full force to show their loyalty to Taylor.

Or so they think.

Turns out innocent bystander Scooter Brown has been on the receiving end of harsh messages across social media. So we are hoping that this will help clear the air as to who Scooter Brown is:

  • Scott Brown, lead singer, is a Veteran who served 4 years and 3 months with the U.S Marines, including 2 tours overseas with 1 tour of combat in Iraq
  • Scooter Brown will be making their Grand Ole Opry Debut at the end of the month (July 30)
  • Scooter Brown recently competed on USA Network’s “Real Country,” earning a spot on Travis Tritt’s team
  • Their calendar consists of over 150 dates a year opening for country greats such as Charlie Daniels Band and Travis Tritt, as well as headlining their own tours
  • Their 2017 album American Son featured Charlie Daniels and reached No. 19 on iTunes Country chart
  • Scooter Brown was selected as the 2019 Male Vocalist of the Year at Rocky Mountain Country Music Awards
  • Brown is also a founder and board member for Base Camp 40, an organization that provides brotherhood and support to veterans (for more information visit www.bc40hunts.com)
  • Brown is also a father of three children, two of which he and his wife adopted

There is a lesson to be learned here: check twice, tag once. Double check that you are tagging the correct party (whether it’s for something good or to get some steam off your back) so that someone completely unrelated to what you are posting doesn’t gets bombarded with messages.

These days we’re always in such a hurry that these mistakes happen, but they don’t have to if we are just diligent in our social media manners (or better yet, let’s all try to be nicer and more respectful to one another).
