NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Emerging singer-songwriter Alex Stern has released fiery track “John Wayne” – available across all digital streaming platforms now (9/25). The song, which explores the idea of one playing a part in order to be loved rather than being their authentic selves, was written by Stern with Brian Donkers and Reed Pittman. Admiring her “full and beautiful vocals,” Parade Magazine gave fans the exclusive first listen (9/23), noting that the “message is introspective and relatable, and Stern delivers this strong anthem with conviction.”

“This song represents the honest trap we all sometimes fall into,” shares Stern, “believing we have to be something we’re not, in order to be loved, seen or heard. I hope someone hears this song and is reminded that they’ve always been enough being exactly who they are. ”

The new tune follows “Somebody,” which American Songwriter applauded her for delivering “relatable storylines with unmatched vocal strength and unabashed storytelling.” She recently released a poignant track “The Choice” which premiered with Wide Open Country, who praised her for her ability to “explore the risk and reward of love.” The “soul-baring” video, shot by Southbound Creative, premiered exclusively with Sounds Like Nashville who raved about the “the simple but luminous visual performance.”

Earlier this Summer, the New Mexico native performed the National Anthem for the Albuquerque Public Schools virtual graduation ceremony alongside guest speakers Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”)  and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (“Modern Family”). Stern and her family were recently inspired during the COVID-19 quarantine after watching Netflix’s Tiger King to have a themed dinner dressed as the cast. Their now viral TikTok, which has over 10 million views, caught the eyes of BuzzFeed, New York Post, INSIDER, Barstool Sports and more.
