Aaron Lee Tasjan & Lilly Hiatt Release Cover Of Tom Petty’s “Walls” to Benefit Music Health Alliance

ROLLING STONE COUNTRY PREMIERED BENEFIT SINGLE FRIDAY

New West Records artists Aaron Lee Tasjan and Lilly Hiatt have released a collaborative cover of Tom Petty’s song “Walls.”. The original version of the song appears on Petty’s soundtrack to the 1996 Edward Burns film “She’s The One.” A favorite of Tasjan and Hiatt’s, “Walls” was recorded live at John Little’s studio, Magnetic Sound, in East Nashville earlier this Summer. Available for download via Tasjan and Hiatt‘s Bandcamp pages, all proceeds from the sale will benefit Music Health Alliance, an organization whose vision is to create a safe and confidential place for the music community to gain healthcare and health insurance solutions through defined and transparent advocacy services with an emphasis on the prevention of illness and overall wellness. Rolling Stone Country premiered their interpretation of the song Friday (10/6), calling it “both beautiful and bittersweet.” Hear it HERE. Speaking to Rolling Stone Country, Tasjan offered, “Tom’s music really brings people together, and we were happy to be singing one of his many incredible tunes together that day. Now that he’s passed, we wanted to release it in his name and provide people another opportunity to donate to the Music Health Alliance in Tom’s remembrance.” Of the recording process, Hiatt stated, “Some days are diamonds, and this certainly was one of those. Tom Petty, you will be greatly missed.”

“Walls” is not the first time the labelmates have collaborated. During AmericanaFest last year, the pair recorded an intimate set of songs for the “Luck Mansion Sessions” that was released by Jack White’s Third Man Records as a vinyl single earlier this year (and documented Here). Both Tasjan and Hiatt are currently (though separately) on the road in support of their latest releases. Tasjan’s New West debut Silver Tears was released in October of last year, receiving critical acclaim and landed on multiple year end best of lists. Hiatt’s New West debut Trinity Lane was released last month to critical acclaim as well. Please see live dates for both below.
