The rising young singer has found a surprisingly engaged audience on TikTok, garnering more than 755,000 likes and more than 63,000 followers with many commenting that they enjoy seeing a young man performing the classic country sound.
It’s no surprise, then, that Jackson’s first release from his upcoming release is a cover of John Anderson‘s first #1 hit, “Wild and Free.”
The country legend even makes a guest appearance on the tune. How’d that happen? Jackson shares: “I have been singing some of John’s songs for years. He’s always been an inspiration. I reached out to his manager and honestly thought “There’s no way I’m going to get a response” but I guess he liked that I like the old stuff and my voice and so we made it happen. What a day! I’ll never forget it!”
John Anderson says: “I was happy to hear Jackson chose one of our songs to record. His voice caught my attention and I’m pleased he’s doing some good country music.”
And what’s a country legend like Anderson like in person? Jackson relays: “I don’t know that they come any nicer. We sat and talked for a while. He told some things about the music industry and it was just like talking to a old friend. He is just real. It’s truly an honor to record this song. “Wild and Blue” was John’s first #1 song in 1982 and he could have redone it with anyone he wanted, but he decided to record it with me. And it wasn’t just an in and out. He wanted it to sound right. He did several takes and even did a few things a little different that make it unique. I could not be more excited that this is the first release from my first album that will release later this year.”
