It’s Been ‘Time Well Spent’ For Lilly Winwood

Country newcomer Lilly Winwood has hit the ground running in Nashville with the release of her debut album Time Well Spent, out today (1/29).  Each written by Linwood, the 11-tracks on the album are inspired from personal experiences which enables fans to find themselves in her songs and relate with each one.

The listener can and will relate to her tunes of found love, lost love, and the things people do to forget the pain.  One such tune is “Indiana,” which features a bluesy guitar solo amongst the storied depiction of a Midwest stop on the road hits a bump of sorts where a life altering situation offers heartache. But with heartache comes the occasional misuse of comforting measures.  “Whiskey” is as smooth and sultry as the drink.  Classic country sound with strong steel presence, and steady drum beats along with Winwood’s sultry vocals add a richness to the poignant tune of overindulgence.

Life can be a gamble, filled with ups and downs as well as decisions that can be hard to manage. Take “One Big Sky” sets a serene picture of traveling across the states and finding oneself.  This is a true country tune with great storytelling as is “California,” whose lyrics create the perfect picture of life on the run and life as a working musician.

Winwood showcases her creative storytelling as a seasoned songwriter and while this album is reflective of personal stories, it shows her creativity to paint pictures of situations anyone can and has found themselves in, which lends to her ability to reach listeners.  Some of the tunes feature more of her vocals and the unlimited style to adapt to each tune.  Take “Seventeen,” a bluesy provocative number of experimentation with an older man. Winwood delivers with smooth vocals and is accentuated by a killer keyboards/organ in the background making the production a stellar one.

To round out the 11 tracks is “You’ll Know Where To Find Me.” This soft, easy listening ode to a respite life once the traveling is done.  The instrumentation and background vocals make this an easy song to have in one’s repertoire.  Picture it at the end of a set, once concerts are back!

Through the stories, personal and made up, Winwood has made an album of relatable songs that have been produced with the right combination of instruments that blend without overshadowing her authentic vocals.
