Tennessee native Drew Green grew up listening to all kinds of music from Alan Jackson, Sammy Keyshawn, to Dr. Dre. He started writing songs as early as high school, and continued honing his craft in Nashville, where he thrived in the songwriting circles on the famed Music Row. Writing song after song, including “Colorado” for Florida Georgia Line’s Can’t Say I Ain’t Country album while with Brett James Conman Music, his hard work and long hours earned him high positions on Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase charts as well as his first publishing deal with Warner/ Chapelle.  With his songwriting and his impressive vocals likening him to Sam Hunt, Green would try out his own songs, which later led to a record deal on the Villa 40/Sony Music Nashville label.

Digging deep into his library of songs and exercising his vocal chops, Green took a stab and released two singles. His debut “Little More Be Alright” was featured on Apple Music’s Today’s Country, Back Porch Country, and The Crossroads playlists as well as heavy rotation on Sirius XM’s The Highway.  Next came his current single “Right Where I Be,” whose video features a cameo from The Bachelor contestant Danielle Maltby.  With the successes of his first two singles, Green is set to release his first studio EP Dirt Boy Vol. 1 available today, September 18th.

Co-written by Green, Mark Trussell and Hunter Phelps, the seven tracks consist of Country crusin’ tunes that are heavy on Country, Rap, and R&B and songs that focus on relationships and hard work, while masterful production makes each song fun and addictive. Take the first track, “She Got That.” With some pop influences, the song describes what one girl is looking for, and he’s the one that has it.  Steady drum beats and background vocals only add more pop flair while keeping with its country sound.  Just the opposite is “Right Where I Be,” a rap-pop tune with the message of knowing that the woman of his dreams is all he needs in the world.

Two other tunes, placed back-to-back on the EP, delve into the hard working man with an intermission of sorts with spoken word. “Money Don’t Sleep” sets the message that farmers work all hours to make money, which runs perfectly into the next track; “Dirty Money” – a rap-heavy track about earning a living as a farmer can be a dirty job, thus earning “dirty money” – the perfect analogical use of a metaphor.

Dirt Boy Vol. 1 EP has equal parts Country, Rap, R&B, and Pop that may not sit well with the one-genre loving country fans, but the production and songwriting create such a great album it’ll be hard not to listen.
