Dan + Shay Release Self-Titled Third Album

Dan + Shay, country music’s dynamic duo with two hit albums, numerous hit singles, and two country awards have just released their long awaited, self titled third studio album on Friday, 6/22.

The album, which includes three singles “Tequila,” “All To Myself,” and “Speechless,” is heavy on what fans love and what Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney known for: their ever impressive harmonies.  In addition to those harmonies, the album is full of songs with lyrics that draw the listener in.

“My Side of the Fence” is a beautifully written tune with some steel guitar and piano, detailing about a lover satisfied with the love he has right here. Cleverly written lyrics added with soft instrumentals along with the duo’s amazing harmonies turn the idiom “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fenceinto a tender way of saying “the best is here:”

If I ever win the lottery
It wouldn’t mean a lot to me, ’cause I already got you to hold my hand
And if a genie gave me a million wishes
I’d spend them all on all your kisses
And save just one to stay right where I am

The guys add a bit of R&B with “What Keeps You Up At Night” as killer electric guitar sings like a smooth whiskey.  Well written lyrics and superb harmonies mixed with the masterful instrumentation creates the picture perfect sexy night:

Let me leave a little taste on your lips
A little chill running under your skin
So, when it’s a quarter past 3 still thinking ’bout me

Chorus
Girl, I wanna be what keeps you up at night
Tossing and turning, head spinning, like you’re dizzy off of red wine
Oh, I wanna kiss you ’til I can’t get off your mind
Girl, I wanna be, wanna be, what keeps you up at night (yeah)

Dan + Shay collaborated with pop icon Kelly Clarkson on “Keeping Score,” a song about a couple who savors being in the present by not thinking of the future:

‘Cause, I know I’m only human
Don’t know how many sunsets I got left
And I don’t wanna ruin
This moment by wondering what comes next
I just want to love you like it’s all I’m living for
Hold you close, enjoy you more
And spend a little less time keeping score

The harmonies of the duo have always been phenomenal, and with the addition of Clarkson who adds a few octaves onto Mooney’s already high register, the three together are an amazing force. Electric guitar and piano guide the story along the couples highs and lows of remaining in the present.

This talented duo has put together one stellar album as all eleven tracks flow effortlessly.
