Husband and wife Alyssa & Wayne Brewer grew up listening to the music of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, so it was no surprise that the duo recorded a tribute album, A & W Sing George and Tammy, available today.
With a bit of hesitation and excitement, the first-time parents hit the ground running with a bevy of musicians to lend their support and individual styles. Ranging from Pedal Steel Guitarist Nathan Fleming (Charley Crockett) to heavy metal pianist Josh Balz to help complete the album, each instrumentalist added their own spin to each song to create a new sound to old hits – something that would catch the ears of today’s listeners. Alyssa and Wayne’s vocals only furthered the process, turning it into a stellar production!
The 10 track album, an SGM Records production, features tender ballads, high energy tunes, and everything George and Tammy made, both as partners and solo artists. For one of their more famous duets “Golden Ring,” Alyssa and Wayne recreated that classic intimacy between George and Tammy, pulling it off effortlessly and recreating the love the icons had for each other.
“We’re Gonna Hold On,” previously released on August 1, was produced and performed so well, it creates the image of these icons singing together on today’s Opry stage. Two tracks, found mid album, showcases Alyssa and Wayne’s vocals on their own.
Singing like she was a reincarnation of Tammy, Alyssa truly shines in “Your Good Girls Gonna Go Bad” while Wayne brings to life the humorous “Rosey Bokay,” lending credence to his storied past in the business which includes a Guinness Book of World Records entry.
