Interview: Backstage at Stagecoach with Granger Smith

Broken Bow Records recording artist Granger Smith played Stagecoach on Saturday (4/28) and we had the chance to catch up with him backstage.

CN: Welcome to Stagecoach, are you excited to play tonight?

GS: So excited! We live for days like this.

CN: What are you excited to play tonight? Any favorite songs you are hoping to get the crowd pumped for?

GS: You have a hunch of what is going to work, but I love to be surprised at the same time. You travel around the world really and there are pockets where there are different songs that just do way better. Sometimes you don’t know and you can only have a good idea. I haven’t thought about your question, I just hope I am surprised.

CN: You’ve been on tour this year and you’ve been selling out venues. You have an amazing fan base, how exciting has it been?

GS: I do have a great fan base and that is the key. I feel blessed every day and grateful every day that they come. I know that these days won’t last forever, to go around and sell out a tour is something I will never forget.

CN: Do you ever get to take your family out on the road with you?

GS: Yeah sometimes. They haven’t been out this year because of school, but for summer absolutely. I get to show my kids what daddy does.

CN: You have a new single “You’re in It”, tell us about it.

GS: It’s upbeat, sweet but it’s so fun to play. It really helps to have that kind of song that is fun to play as your radio single, we’ll be playing it tonight.

CN: What inspired your parody video “I Happen to Like Cats”?

GS: I was not taking myself too serious for sure and my tour manager came up with the title “I Happen to Like Cats”. I thought we have to write this song and make a video.

CN: What is your dream venue to play at?

GS: Stagecoach!!!

CN: What was the first car you drove?

GS: 74’ GMC pick-up truck, single cab. Manual shift, 3 speed, no AC, no radio when I first got it. We still have it, it doesn’t run.

Granger is touring all summer long, including a stop at CMA Fest Chevrolet Riverfront Stage in June. To see a full list of tour dates, visit http://www.grangersmith.com/tour.
