Setting up for the release of their next full-length project, SC-based band Wilson Banjo Co. released their latest single “Holler” earlier this year and today they bring the melancholy song to life with the official music video, premiering exclusively with The Country Note.
From the first notes of banjo and fiddle, you get that chilly look-over-your-shoulder feeling. Then enters Sarah Logan, her haunting voice documenting this Appalachian story and the little hairs on your neck begin to stand up as she hits those three words “in the holler” followed by an eerily fiddle shriek as an exclamation point. “‘Holler’ is such a special song, well written by one of our favorite writers Jordan Rainer, along with Bill Packard,” says bandmate and banjo extraordinaire Steve Wilson. (Jordan Rainer also co-wrote WBC’s 2021 hit “When the Crow Comes Down.”)

in a little log cabin by a lantern’s flame
a long line of moonshine in my veins.
Mountains raised me up, and some day they’ll lay me down
in the meadow in the shadow in a willow’s wing

In the holler
The song’s lyrics paint a vivid picture as Logan’s vocals oozes a nostalgia met by the ambiance of the video’s venue. “The Palmetto Distillery upstairs venue in Anderson, SC was the perfect spot for us to film with its endless layers of rustic appeal and natural lighting,” explains Wilson. “It made setting the mood super easy. Sarah delivers this story flawlessly with her unmistakable vocal, drawing the listeners in with her haunting Appalachian timbre. The band supports Sarah with a masterful, vintage sounding, instrumental arrangement that furthers the narrative, engaging the audience even more. Capturing that essence on camera was super fun! Videographer, Brian Auburn (Pinecastle Music) shot and produced the video for us and we are thrilled with how it turned out. We sure hope you enjoy watching!”
