Exclusive Premiere: Brei Carter “For The Good Times”

In June 1970, Ray Price released a single that would not only give him his first #1 and an ACM Award for “Song of the Year” but also solidify Kris Kristofferson as one of the all-time greatest songwriters. Known as one of the saddest country songs ever written, “For The Good Times” has been recorded by some of music’s biggest names: Bill Nash (1968), Kristofferson (April 1970), Al Green (1972) and Perry Como (1973), and tomorrow country artist Brei Carter is set to release her version, premiering exclusively with The Country Note today.

The song’s chorus showcases Kristofferson’s lyrical genius encompassing melancholy with a sense of hope while providing a visual of these feelings through raindrops and wind:

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Blowin’ soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times

Brei’s recording brings a feminine touch with her sensitive vocals as she sings along with the cries of the pedal steel and piano. “Life is a fleeting journey, and good times may not last forever, but the memories we create in those moments will stay with us for a lifetime,” commented Brei on the song’s meaning. “Cherish them, savor them, and let them warm your heart even when the skies turn gray.”
