With his blend of “bluegrass, Americana, and country into a rousing mix,” singer/songwriter Bobby Cool draws the listener in with his down-to-earth style as he writes about the everyday – the ups, the downs and the in-between. The Alpharetta, Georgia native’s process for songwriting even moves along with the ebbs and flows, as was the case with his new single – the catchy, summery “Salt Life“premiering today exclusively with The Country Note.
“My buddy, Joseph Patton and I started the Salt Life back in August of 2015 (I know because I went back and checked the work tape in my phone) and we honestly had about ninety percent of the song written in an hour,” says Bobby. “There were a few lines that needed some work though and somehow it just never got finished. Now, seven years later, it’s finally being released. And even when we were tracking for the record, it didn’t make the initial cut but as we were gearing up for a summer release, it seemed like it’d be a great fit if we could make it work. So, we went back, tweaked a couple of lines, and here we are. If you listen to the early demo of the song, we were actually pretty close. We were wanting to paint the picture of a guy who lives at the beach and the salt life is the only thing he knows. For me, the chorus line, “I may never live the high life but you know it’s alright, ‘cause livin’ up the salt life’s so damn sweet” really drives that home. And one of the things I love most about the recording is the vibe we were able to capture. Letting it be a little more acoustic with guitar, mandolin, and a healthy dose of harmonica just seemed like the right fit for summer and for anyone wishing they could live a little more of the salt life.”
