Exclusive First Listen: Kayla Ruby’s “Never Really Know Somebody”

Born in Texas and raised in Colorado, Third & James Records’ artist Kayla Ruby has been surrounded by country music her whole life, and now she’s ready to share her music with the world. The eighteen-year old pop-country artist released her debut single, “Never Really Know Somebody,” on Monday (10/1) as the lead single from her upcoming debut EP Reckless And Brave out later this year.

Written by Ruby, Aaron Rothe, and Alina Odnoralov, “Never Really Know Somebody” tells of those relationships viewed through rose-colored glasses; when you see what you want to see, but in the end their true colors come out and you realize you never really knew them at all.  With a style similar to Kelsea Ballerini, Ruby sings that she’s “she’s got million memories on replay but I really need them anyway” and the chorus’ catchy “ooh ooh oohs” easily get stuck in your head.

Ruby was recently invited to sing the national anthem at her hometown Denver Bronco’s Monday Night Football match-up versus the KC Chiefs at Mile High Stadium in Denver, CO (9/30).
