NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country legend David Lee Murphy is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his two-week No. 1 song “Dust on the Bottle.”  Written by Murphy and produced by Tony Brown, the platinum-selling single off Murphy’s Out With A Bang album defines an era as one of country music’s most-recognized, covered and beloved songs in the genre. The country classic still racks over a million streams a week.

“I had written the ‘Dust on the Bottle’ title down on a notebook page and would see it every now and then when I thumbed through it,” recalls Murphy. “The morning of the second day recording my Out With A Bang album, I was in my kitchen drinking coffee. I picked up my guitar and just started the intro groove to the song. The first thing that popped into my head was the ‘Dust’ title. I knew an old guy from my hometown, Creole Williams, who made homemade wine. The story took off and the song kinda just fell out. I called Tony after I finished it, laid the phone down on the kitchen table and played him the song. He said something like ‘Man we gotta cut that!’  It was like magic when the band kicked it off.  We all felt it.  A cool thing about ‘Dust’ is no matter where we go play, the USA, Canada, Australia, even countries in Europe, people always recognize and relate to it. I’ll never get tired of singing it or the feeling that happens when we play it.”

Country superstar Kenny Chesney says, “‘Dust On The Bottle’ is a song that has become a soundtrack to a generation and to a genre. I saw it firsthand on stage with David Lee for two years. Every person, no matter their age, knew every word because it was part of the fabric of their lives.”

Along with his country standards “Dust on the Bottle” and “Party Crowd,” Murphy, a Grammy-nominated songwriter, has helped shape the sound of country music writing songs for peers including Kenny Chesney (“Here & Now,” “Til It’s Gone”), Jason Aldean (“The Only Way I Know,” “Big Green Tractor”), and so many others from Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton to Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line. Chesney and Murphy also shared the No.1 single and 2018 CMA Musical Event of the Year song “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” off Murphy’s 2018 album No Zip Code.

Murphy has released five albums over his career and maintains a consistent touring schedule throughout the U.S. and Canada. Despite all his success as an artist, Murphy always goes back to his love of songwriting. “A lot of great artists have recorded my songs,” says Murphy “I get up every day and get to do something I really love to do, which is write songs. It allows me to work with great artists and the best songwriters anywhere. Plus, I get to record and sing on the demos of the songs, so I’m making little records and being in the studio a lot.” Summarizing his career as a singer/songwriter/artist Murphy simply states, “I’ve been very fortunate.”
