NASHVILLE, Tenn. – David Corlew has helped to guide the career of Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels since 1973. And, just like the man who he has worked with, Corlew is a firm believer and supporter of the United States Military. Recently, the longtime linchpin in the CDB organization was celebrated for his many contributions to America’s finest men and women.
The beloved member of the Nashville music community was celebrated on September 19, 2017, with the Distinguished Patriot Medal from The Military Department of Tennessee. The plaque given to Corlew from Maj. Gen. Terry M. “Max” Haston states that the award was bestowed upon Corlew “For his unprecedented support of our Armed Forces, especially the soldiers and airmen of the Tennessee National Guard. His efforts and service as one of the premier leaders in the music industry, not only in Nashville, but throughout the country, have inspired the industry to take up the cause and become ardent supporters of our military forces. His passion, initiative, and foresight in founding The Journey Home project continues to be one of the most effective ways to assist and support our troops. It is for these reasons Mr. Corlew is awarded the Adjutant General’s Distinguished Patriot Award.”
Corlew is co-founder and a board member of The Journey Home project, has developed and produced video and television programming that raises awareness of the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve in the U.S. military and utilize these assets in raising funds to help our returning military men and women. After the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, there are many stories to be told as most of the 2.5 million troops deployed are making their journey home.
Corlew was also instrumental in helping to bring the Charlie Daniels Band overseas to Baghdad for a tour of American bases, which resulted in a 2007 live album on the singer’s label, Blues Hat Records. Daniels documents the experience in his upcoming memoir, Never Look At The Empty Seats, which will be released in bookstores in late October.
Corlew credits the Grand Ole Opry member for setting the tone of his organization that has made it a natural fit for him. “All that Charlie represents as a person and artist, has allowed us to accomplish not only our business goals, but has provided a platform to honor and serve those who protect this great nation,” says Corlew.
