Corey Stevenson Bares Soul on Suicide in Debut Single “December Wind”

NASHVILLE, TN — Few artists have the confidence to bare their soul into their debut single, especially when tackling a subject such as suicide.

Logan County, West Virginia native Corey Stevenson, however, felt getting his debut single “December Wind” out into the world as soon as possible was important, not only for him but for those left behind from loved ones committing suicide.

“I talked to a friend who just had a friend kill himself, and I’d dealt with that as well,” he said. “We were talking not so much about what the people who committed suicide were thinking, but the ones they left behind.

“It’s a special song to me because I wrote it from the perspective of missing somebody and seeing everything left behind.”

A solo write, Stevenson knew getting his feelings into lyrics and a melody would only work if he did it himself. Burning the midnight oil — literally — the melody began to run through his mind, so he picked up his guitar.

“This song wrote itself. As soon as I picked up my guitar, the whole thing just poured out of me,” he said. “Everything that was written were things I dealt with and nobody else could say how I was feeling.”

The pure emotion he left in the song even caused him issues in performing it early on.

“This cuts a lot deeper for me. I couldn’t even perform it the first two months after I wrote it because I would get so emotional,” he said.

“December Wind” will certainly touch anyone who has dealt with the loss of a loved one through suicide, as most share many of the same emotions in the final month of the year.

“December is the holiday season, and you know people start missing their loved ones they’ve lost along the way around that time,” he said. “It’s cold and it’s a good season but also bad. If you’ve lost someone, the season can be even colder and the wind just feels like it can cut through you.”

The song shows off not only the confidence, but the creativity of Stevenson. As an artist, expect him to infuse his deeply emotional side into his Southern Rock influence. This release is set for radio promotion on March 16, 2021.
